Assisting your project
I sometimes work on other theatre, dance, and live art makers’ shows, doing voice input, acting as an outside eye, mentoring, helping with devising, or thinking about how we engage audiences - especially marginalised ones - differently. I have unusual devising process knowledge that straddles theatre, voice, experimental music, dance, and haptic/touch technologies. I strongly emphasise using my vision to facilitate your work’s uniqueness and your own career choices.

Collaborate or commission
My R+D processes are thorough, and I tend to do a lot of audience research with ideas before they launch. Most of my performance and installation work has collaborative components, and teams of people ranging from engineers to coders to designers to performers might all be involved. You could visit the research pages to get an idea of the processes that underpin the way I make work and some of the questions that drive me. Let me know if you’d like to make work together!

Voice coaching, teaching, workshops
I teach both basic vocal technique and advanced, safe extended voice practice. I coach for live shows, but especially where technical chops, blended speech and singing, playful sounds, projection for dancers, empowerment strategies for helping people ‘take up vocal space,’ or emotional sounds are required.
I draw from my background to deliver a kind of emotional somatic awareness training and combine it with careful technical empowerment. Follow the button below for more information on my approach to voice.

Artistic Research-Creation
I lead workshops or support artist-academics to think through their strategies for framing and asserting the research qualities of their work. I also make research-creation thinking available through methodological exploration to researchers from other fields, including the traditional sciences and social sciences.

Study, learn or research with me
I am the Head of the Department of Theatre at University College Cork, Ireland. I teach on the MA in Theatre and Performative Practices and on our undergraduate programme. You can do a PhD or MRes (an invidualized research M-level degree) with me. I deliver workshops in advanced practice-inclusive methodologies.
For PhD projects, you should look at my formal research profile at UCC, as well as the Research page; I am interested in a range of practice-inclusive topics, marginalised audiences, new materials, experimental performance, and also in theories of voice, especially vocal difference. Research collaborations and approaches for competitions for post-doctoral funding are also welcome.

Artistic thinking + leadership
I am interested how artistic thinking and artistic approaches to leadership can be useful to people outside the arts, so that they might apply ‘constructive disruption’ in the wider leadership, business and service development sphere, and develop transformative communication skills and empathy, which is why I completed a ProfDip in Leadership at the Irish Management Institute.
