Beacons (Show) 2008-10, was developed as a residency and commission from EMPAC, the Experimental Media and Performing Arts Centre, Troy, New York, USA. The piece was a live and recorded multi-tracked vocal and video poem, which explored the poetry of landscapes of everywhere and nowhere. I was riding a coach at night, looking at roadworks, and as the beaming lights flew past me, I realised that at night, I could be on any road in the world… and then thought of the radio and telephone transmission towers in the far distance that I could see on the prairies as a child, and the meaning of the radio signal… Please enjoy browsing these excerpts from the show. Beacons premiered at EMPAC in 2009, and after further development thanks to a brief residency and showing at the Royal Central School of Music and Drama, London, toured to 7 other UK venues, alongside voice workshops. My favourite show was in Glasgow at the Arches.
